WHAT IS SELF DEFENCE?

Self Defence is the act of protecting yourself from a threat of harm. It is the practice of not only dealing with violence, but also learning how to prevent violence. Personal safety is the main focus of these classes and elements of BJJ can be effectively applied to prepare students in the event of an attack. BJJ is characterised by taking your opponent to the ground. There, strength and size is less of an advantage. By using body mechanics to maximise force and apply incapacitating manouvres, our students will be equipped with techniques to successfully escape an attack regardless of the size and strength of their assailant.

THE CLASSES

Students will work in pairs to practice various techniques including escape methods, how to disarm an attacker and how to restrain an attacker. Students will also learn how to use reasonable force. We teach our students how to prevent a threat of violence from escalating. This makes the class ideal for children to learn some anti-bullying techniques. Anti-bullying is embedded into all our Junior classes.

THE COACH

James Boyle, our Head Instructor has cleverly customised his BJJ expertise to design an effective Self Defence course. He will teach techniques that are appropriate for real-life scenarios. Read more about James here.

WHO IS IT FOR

Everyone! We offer these classes for adults, but we also hold a family class too. It is essential for everyone to have these skills in order to stay safe.
